So I went in to resign to my boss.  That’s resign as in ‘leave work’ as opposed to re-sign as in ‘sign another contract’.  He looked at me with an absolute “you’ve got to be f**king kidding me” look.  I don’t know my new boss that well but I am assuming this look is probably reserved for when people ask him if he’d like to sign up to be a Nutrimetics consultant because he’s good at sales.  So anyway, long story short… I’m taking a Sabbatical!

Sabbatical is a really fancy word for taking leave without getting paid the whole time but still having your job back when you return.  When you tell people that you are taking a sabbatical they answer in two ways.

1. Wow that’s so cool, what are you doing? Are you off to volunteer somewhere?

2. What’s a sabbatical? (I then tell them that it’s a fancy word for taking leave without getting paid the whole time, they then refer to answer number 1.)

Nigel and I have done a lot of travelling.  We have clocked up 65 and 63 countries respectively on the official country list.  We collect countries like some people collect rare wines.  We will go out of our way to collect a country in order to win the ultimate game in our family which is “The one with the most countries wins”.  Not sure what we win but right now we are winning! (To be fair Nigel is winning because of Pakistan and Congo but I’m not far behind).

So right now in the lead up to our travels we have decided on a round the world airfare with Star Alliance so we can get as many flights and as many countries in as we can all for the same price.  So let’s start planning.  Let’s start with Hong Kong (coz we haven’t been there… stay tuned)
